Smarter, Not Harder: What Founders Can Learn from AI, Leadership, and Life After Corporate

We sat down with Jane Jawad — transformation leader, founder, and all-round powerhouse — to talk about what it really takes to build a business after leaving corporate life. And we'll be honest: this conversation stayed with us long after we hit stop.

Jane has led global transformation programmes for some of the world’s biggest brands. But in recent years, she’s stepped into something new — building her own business, supporting SMEs, and helping others lead smarter, not harder.

Here are a few reflections from our chat that we think every founder, consultant, and transformation leader should hear:

1. AI is a leveller — but only if you use it wisely

Jane shared how AI and automation have made her business possible. From marketing to operations, she’s embraced tools that save time and reduce overwhelm. But she also cautioned against chasing shiny tech without a clear use case. Her advice: Start with the problem, not the tool.

2. Leadership is situational — and deeply human

We talked about how leadership evolves over time. Jane described her shift from hands-on delivery to trusting her team and adapting her style to the moment. Her approach: Lead with authenticity, adjust with intention.

3. Building a business as a new mum is no joke

This part hit home. Jane spoke candidly about ruthless prioritisation, emotional load, and the reality of juggling five things at once. We both agreed: Being honest about where you’re at — with clients, with yourself — is not just okay, it’s essential.

4. SMEs need access to trusted expertise

Jane’s work with the SME Innovation Network is all about giving smaller businesses the kind of support usually reserved for corporates. Her mission: Make transformation accessible, practical, and confidence-building.

5. Smarter, not harder is more than a tagline

It’s a philosophy. One that asks: Are we solving the right problems? Are we using our time well? Are we getting the results we need — or just staying busy?

This episode reminded us why we started Source & Connect. To build something human. To deliver with care. And to help businesses — big and small — move forward with clarity and confidence.
